| Faith & Spike Spinoffs - Moviehole.net Users Discussions From Moviehole.net
Moviehole discusses the Faith and Spike Spin Off possibility. Do you agree to the opinions held in this discussion?
About Spike, and Angel...I think I’d like to see Spike made human, (or bewitched with a spell so he looks more human) so he can get older-seeing as James Marsters isn’t going to stop getting older if he keeps breathing. Id also like to see (or maybe just hear, like Charlie, in Charlie’s Angels) more of Andy Hallett, green or not...I miss Lorne/the Host on Angel. If we just hear him, like Charlie-he could still be Lorne...just not green. 0 hours in make-up. WB, what do you think? I’d watch. Terri
Well,.. WB?
Hi! I was wondering if you had any information or could comment on the following. As I understand it, Eliza Dushku decided to do “Tru Calling” instead of the Faith spin-off so she could try a different character. Since “Tru Calling” has been cancelled, has there been any renewed talk of the Faith spin-off? There didn’t seem to be any bad blood between her and Joss Whedon regarding her decision to do “Tru Calling”, as I understood it, so what would be stopping this? It would have no effect on any Spike-centric projects, as the Faith spin-off was rumoured not to include any other Buffyverse characters. Although Eliza Dushku and James Marsters together in a spin-off ... pure heaven! Anything? Even wild speculation would be appreciated, if it keeps my hopes alive! Mac
Mac,
Funnily enough, and despite the fact that, yep, “Tru Calling” is gone; there’s been no chat about the “Faith” spin-off. I think Joss has gone and got himself busier than a Mr Whippy at the beach - what with “Serenity” and “Wonder Woman” - so don’t count on him having the time to organize said spin-off. It’s still a good idea though...here’s my fingers crossing for you. Cling.
Hey, I just gotta say, I am a HUGE fan of the entire “Buffy” series, but I hate the character of Spike, and cannot believe that is the only possibility of a spin-off whether it be a movie or not. I never cared much for the Angel series, but once they put Spike on that show I never watched it again. I know I am in the minority, but I just don’t get how people like such a dull character, when in fact what made his character was the other characters in the show. Is there any news on the Buffy animated series? I’d rather see that then a Spike movie Thanks Mike
Mike, You’re the first blondie basher we’ve had. I think the fans still outweigh you.....I dunno, maybe we could set up a jelly wrestling competition? As for the animated “Buffy” series - it’s a goer. [A couple of people have asked me to expand....yes, the show is being made, but as for whether it’s going to get a run....who knows. We need a network to pick it up. Tony Head recently said : "...it IS being made and the scripts are really, really good." Here’s crossing everything that a network picks it up soon or, at the very least, it gets a DVD outing.]

| Faith Spin-Off - Whedonverse.org Campaign
From Whedonverse.org
Faith in the Whedonverse
To celebrate those fans who refuse to fade away, the Whedonverse Multimedia Project is raffling off an chance to win some action figures in honor of their continuing efforts. The first raffle begins with Faith and the efforts of Save Angel to bring back the Whedonverse in the form of a Faith spin-off.
From now until June 30, every $5 donated to the Whedonverse Multimedia Project will automatically enter you into the drawing to win a 12" Sideshow Faith Action Figure. According to Sideshow Collectibles, this action figure is a limited edition with only 500 in circulation.
In addition, anyone making a donation during this time will have their name added to a card that will be sent to Eliza Dushku via her management letting her know that fans would love to see her in a spin-off. Hopefully there will be enough donations to provide a complete set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the Series and Firefly to the Playa Vista Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library System.
Fans who’ve already worked hard to show their appreciation of Eliza’s work as Faith are the folks over at Save Angel. Whedonverse.org recently interviewed Gman, one of the organizers of the campaign, to find out more about their spin-off campaign.
What prompted the Save Angel team to begin running a Spin-off campaign ?
As it became clear that Angel was not going to return as a series, our efforts turned to campaigning for a general spin-off and a feature film. We all knew that we’d had it pretty good for eight years and now we were going to face our first season without Buffy or Angel. These series showed what television could be at its finest. The combination of drama, action, and humor that they brought is very rare. They were amazing because they managed to speak to us about some of the most important things in life in shows that featured superhumans, vampires, demons, witches, and outcasts. We knew that there would be a hole in the schedule, but we continue to campaign because there is a hole in our hearts.
Why was the character of Faith chosen for the campaign ?
Back in June 2004, a reliable source with ties to Mutant Enemy reported that Joss Whedon’s favorite spin-off idea was one featuring Faith. Last October, AICN reported that Joss was still "salivating" to do Faith spin-off series. Our source confirmed this. This was the catalyst for the Faith campaign. It’s easy to see why Faith would great to build a series around. We’ve seen enough of her to know that that she’s a great character and that Eliza is electrifying as Faith, but there is still some mystery to her.
Does the campaign support other characters as well ?
Yes. We’ve asked our artists to design campaign postcards to mention that along with Eliza Dushku as Faith, we wish to see James Marsters, Amy Acker, and J. August Richards reprise their roles as Spike, Fred/Illyria, and Gunn in a spin-off. Spike in particular is very popular and justifiably so. Most people would agree that he helped make the last season of Angel arguably its best.
What types of activities has the campaign done to promote a Faith spin-off ?
Our members have sent postcards to Joss, Eliza, network executives at the WB, Fox, ABC, UPN, and TNT and prominent media figures that cover television such as Michael Ausiello, Matt Roush, Kristin Veitch, Robert Bianco, Gillian Flynn, and David Bianculli. We have also sent our press kits to these media figures along with Angel action figures and chocolate angels. When we kicked off the campaign, we sent Eliza a cookie bouquet in care of her talent agency. To promote Eliza, we asked our members to vote for Tru Calling in TV Guide Online’s The Water Cooler as Thursday evening’s best program every week when it returned briefly to Fox’s schedule. Tru Calling held its own in that poll against competition like the OC and Survivor.
Have there been any encouraging signs from Joss or Eliza about the possibility of a spin-off ?
Yes. Recently, a reader posted a question to Lorrie Lynch at USAWeekendMagazine.com asking if Joss was writing a Buffy/Angel reunion show. Ms. Lynch reported that Joss said that if he goes back to the Angel or Buffy universe it will be through "Willow or Faith, or another character that has great resonance with fans.” Joss was also interviewed by Dark Worlds and stated he isn’t completely done with Angel and Buffy characters. He said, “There’re a lot of characters in that universe that are a.) very exciting, b.) very beloved, c.) played by people I really like, who d.) would actually like to play those parts again.” He’s also made some positive statements about a possible Spike TV movie. This is all exciting stuff.
One of Eliza’s favorite charities is Camp Hale. Is the Faith spin-off campaign involved in supporting her charity ? If so, how ?
On our home page, we have a section on Camp Hale where its banner is posted and we express our proud support of its cause. The banner is a link to information about the history of the charity and the Eliza Dushku Foundation, a Q & A with Aaron Dushku, and details about donating. We had this information up even before we began the Faith spin-off campaign.
How can fans participate in the campaign ?
Thank you for asking. Visit our website at www.saveangel.org and visit the Raising the Stakes section of our forum for details on the Faith spin-off campaign. To participate in the Angel feature film campaign visit the Raising the Bar section of our forum. Be sure to check out our fan fiction and role-playing sections, also. In addition, visit our Other Places and Campaigns section to view links to other campaigns and sites. The Whedonverse is an amazing place and thanks to its fans there are a lot of great stops.
Whedonverse.org would like to thank the folks at Save Angel for taking the time to speak with us. Best of luck in your campaign. We plan future raffles to highlight the efforts of fans who want an Angel feature film and a Spike telemovie.
